God has been so good to me already this year and it seems like it’s just getting started. Times are passing quickly – almost quicker than we can keep up with, but God is still blessing and performing miracles in the midst of His people. For every tactic of the enemy God is still making a way out of no way! Our topic this month, HURRY UP AND WAIT touches on several issues – mainly the fact that God’s ways are not like our ways, neither are His thoughts our thoughts. We always think we know what God should do to resolve our issues but God knows best. There is a time period that God sometimes puts us through that this flesh hates to be bothered with. A WAITING PERIOD that leaves us exhausted and confused. What we have to remember is that God is in control and He already has our solution. We just have to WAIT.

Be Blessed,

Dr. Sherman S. Watkins

"HURRY UP AND WAIT"

We’re all pretty familiar with the words, Hurry Up and Wait! What’s meant by those words requires patience on our part. This phrase basically means that you’re rushing around in a hurry only to find out that you’re still on hold because it’s not your TIME yet. Have you ever noticed that “impatience” never rushes God? We can get to the point that we feel we can’t wait any longer, yet the fact that we’re tired of waiting on God doesn’t even move Him because God already has a plan for our life. We all want good things to happen in our lives, but too often we want it NOW……not later. Realistically we know that we can’t run God’s business, still this flesh has a tendency to expect an explanation from God as to WHY this waiting period is taking so long. It’s a wonderful thing to look like you’re a soldier in the army of the Lord and you’re a powerhouse when it comes to waiting on God. We appear that way anyway, but WAITING ON GOD REQUIRES THAT WE TRUST IN HIM WITH THE RIGHT ATTITUDE. We sing the song, "I will trust in the Lord until I die..." That’s a beautiful song but too often we forget about the importance of our "waiting with the right attitude."

Too many times the only reason we’re waiting is because we have no other choice except to wait. It’s not like that’s our first choice. We’re waiting because we can’t resolve the issue, but if we’re missing joy and peace, we’re not really trusting God. If our mind is worn out all the time, we can’t honestly say we’re trusting God without worry. If we’re honest we will admit that our flesh has a tendency to want to know about everything that’s going on in our life. We don’t think about the fact that knowing EVERYTHING can be uncomfortable and can even hurt us. Where’s our trust if we need God to tell us everything in advance? It will never happen because God doesn’t owe us an explanation but the mere fact that we allow the enemy to attack us in such a way to even desire to know everything can be stressful! God wants us to live by faith, which involves discernment and revelation knowledge. We have to learn to relax in God, pray about it and then release it. That’s’ the best way to rest in the Lord. The attitude behind, "HURRY UP AND WAIT" is really this flesh crying out for control over things that we can’t handle on our own. We have to remember, Patience is a virtue and CHANGE is a process. We know patience is one of the most difficult virtues to have because LIFE forces us to wait and be patient for many things. We can quote all the scriptures in the Bible and still struggle in the area of patience.

  • Psalm 37:7 tells us, "REST IN THE LORD, and wait patiently for Him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass."
  • Galatians 6:9 – "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."

We can "HURRY UP AND WAIT" with patience and joy if we choose to, knowing this waiting period does not mean that God isn’t going to do it; it just means that He’ll do it when He gets ready!
